The first rainfall in Abu Dhabi this year caused a diplomatic incident of sorts Sunday when a US diplomat slipped and fell on his face during welcoming ceremonies for President George W Bush.
Local US envoy Martin Quinn fell on the marble flooring in the airport's VIP area which was made slippery by the rain. Quinn got a bloody nose when he fell. But he later was doing well, diplomatic officials told reporters.
Due to the inclement weather, Bush had to disembark Air Force One carrying a black umbrella, which he insisted on carrying while he was escorted by President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the reception ceremonies. ( Dpa )
