( dpa ) - The UN Security Council strongly condemned Friday the bomb attack on a US embassy vehicle in Beirut, which killed three people and injured several others.

The Security Council branded Tuesday's attack a terrorist act and expressed its "deepest sympathy and condolences" to families of the victims, after a meeting to discuss the incident Friday. The dead included two Lebanese employees of the US embassy.

"The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestation constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, wherever, whenever and by whomever committed," the council said in a statement.

It called for bringing the attackers to justice and reaffirmed its support for the government of Lebanon.
