( dpa ) - Dutch strikers Arjen Robben and Ruud Van Nistelrooy are all set to miss Wednesday's Champions League showdown between Real Madrid and AS Roma.

According to the Real medical team on Sunday morning, Robben suffered a "heavily sprained left ankle" in Saturday's controversial 3-2 win away to lowly Recreativo Huelva.

Robben suffered the injury thanks to a brutal tackle from Huelva defender Quique Alvarez, who was shown a direct red card.

The Dutch winger - whose season has been plagued by different injuries - will be out of action for at least a week.

Van Nistelrooy, for his part, has not recovered from the synovitis in his right ankle which has kept him out for a week now, though he is still hopeful of being on the subs' bench on Wednesday.

Reall also be without Christoph Metzelder, Marcelo and Wesley Sneijder, though Pepe and Robinho are fit again.

Robinho demonstrated his return to fitness by coming off the bench in Huelva and scoring two crucial late goals.

The win in Huelva leaves the whites five points ahead of second- placed Barcelona, who crashed 4-2 against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Real - who have failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League the last three seasons - lost the first leg 2-1 to Roma in the Italian capital 11 days ago.
