Foremer Spanish prime minister Calvo Sotelo dies
Former Spanish prime minister Leopoldo Calvo Sotelo died Saturday in his home in Pozuelo de Alarcon near Madrid at the age of 82, Calvo Sotelo's family announced, the dpa reported.
No details were given as to the cause of death.
The conservative politician came to the head the Spanish government from February 1981 to December 1982, after the end of Spain's Franco dictatorship.
He was best known in connection with the failed military coup led by Lieutenant-Colonel Antonio Tejero on February 23, 1981 as parliament was to elect Calvo Sotelo premier.
