It was the moment that many movie fans had been waiting for, the premiere Sunday of US director Steven Spielberg's fourth Indiana Jones film at the Cannes Film Festival, dpa reported.

It has been almost 20 years since the last Indiana Jones movie with Spielberg telling a press conference ahead of the formal launch of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that it had been the film's star Harrison Ford who had convinced him to make another Indie film.

"The pleasure in making this character is his wit and intelligence" said Ford, who plays the film's archaeologist-turned- action hero, with the movie having been kept tightly under wraps in the buildup to its showing Cannes.

This time around, Indiana Jones finds himself in the Cold War with the nuclear race fast taking shape as Soviet Russians replace the Nazis as the archaeologist professor's adversaries.
