Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat
confirmed Friday that President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud
Olmert will meet in Jerusalem on Monday.
He told reporters in Ramallah that the two leaders will discuss the core issues
related to final status negotiations as well as calm in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas and Olmert meet regularly to overcome difficulties that surface in the
negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli teams. The last meeting took
place three weeks ago.
Reports said earlier this week that Israel proposed to withdraw from 91 per
cent the West Bank, excluding East Jerusalem, and the Palestinians quickly
rejected this proposal.
Erekat had said that the negotiations, even though they were serious, were
still facing difficulties and the gap between the two sides was still wide, dpa reported.
