A Hamas militant was killed and 16 wounded early Saturday when an explosion rocked a house in the middle of Gaza city, medical sources and witnesses said.
Residents said the victim, Nader Abu Sha'ban, was a Hamas activist and that the blast occurred in his house, reported dpa. A spokesman for Hamas movement refused to comment on the incident.
Health ministry emergency official Mu'awia Hassanein said two of the injured were in critical condition. The blast damaged the three- story house owned by Abu Sha'ban family in al-Daraj neighbourhood.
Explosions inside Palestinian houses have occasionally been caused by weapons made and stored in houses of members of armed Palestinian groups.
