Thai army chief General Anupong Paochinda refused on Thursday of receiving a secret budget worth of 2 billion baht (59 million U.S. dollars) to counter anti- government protesters, Xinhua reported.

Earlier, a leader of the Thai anti-government group -- United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship accused that the military got the secret fund from the government to counter the anti- government protesters.

"The Army has no secret fund for such purpose and has no intention to get involved with politics nor to fight any political camp," the website by The Nation newspaper quoted him as saying.

He also said the army's project on civil affairs was about the promotion of the theory of sufficiency economy which had nothing to do with politics.
