Venezuela Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro on Thursday said the section about the South American country in the US State Department report on human rights was "packed with lies."

"Governments, social and political movements from every corner of the planet are repudiating the ill-intentions and false nature of this report," Maduro told reporters, according to dpa.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement accused the US report of interfering with Venezuelan affairs.

The State Department report, released Wednesday, criticized Venezuela for corruption and harassment of the press and the political opposition.

"No government in the world can draw up a report to interfere and judge situations in other countries," Maduro said, adding that it was "unacceptable" for any country "to put itself above other countries."

"We ask the United States to cease in these kind of attacks on the Venezuelan people. No government in Latin America is willing to accept this sort of assessment," the minister said.
