Verkhovna Rada cut twice salaries to President and PM

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed a resolution cutting twice the salary to the President, Prime Minister, MPs, and other higher officials.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, 374 out of 423 MPs registered in the session hall voted for this. In particular, the resolution was supported by 151 MP of the Party of Regions faction, 142 - BYuT, 34 - Our Ukraine - People's Self-Defense, 27 - the Communist faction, and 20 - the Lytvyn's Bloc.

The resolution reads that, in order to cut expenses of the state budget of Ukraine in the period of the economic crisis, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine commissioned the government to revise salaries of the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada Speaker, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Deputy Prime Ministers, Members of Parliament, National Security and Defense Council members, the Presidential Secretariat, the State Affairs Department, Verkhovna Rada machinery, the government's secretariat, heads of other central bodies of executive power, Oblast governors, Mayors of Kyiv and Sevastopol, to January 1, 2010. In line with the resolution, their salaries must be cut twice.
