Iran marks 20th anniversary of Imam Khomeini's death
Today - on June 4, Iran marks the 20th anniversary of the country's former spiritual leader Imam Khomeini's death, Mehr news agency reported.
Today at 9:00 local time, millions of people assembled at the tomb of Imam. Iran's senior officials, heads of diplomatic missions and guests from other countries are attending the ceremony, as well.
In 1979, Khomeini led a revolutionary movement and succeeded in overthrowing the Shah regime in the country. Guests from many Muslim countries attend the ceremony each year. Approximately 900 guests from 47 countries have come to Iran in 2009.
