A 5.4-magnitude earthquake jolted Peru's second-largest city of Arequipa on Saturday with no immediate reports of damage, Xinhua reported.
According to the website of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the quake was 28 km from the southern province of Moquegua, at a depth of 54 km.
Soon after the quake struck at 03:10 p.m. local time (2010 GMT), the city was under a shroud of dust caused by mudslides at the Misti volcano, which overlooks the city, local residents said.
No injuries or damages have been reported so far.
