Security ensured fully in Afghanistan: Defense Ministry official

The government granted security of the voters and undertook security measures against the possible Taliban terrorist attacks during the presidential elections, official of the Afghan Defense Ministry said.

Taliban has committed 7 terrorist attacks following the commencement of the Afghan presidential election, BBC reported. Taliban has killed the head of police department of the Kunduz province, injuring three policemen more, one of the Taliban spokesmen told BBC.

"We succeeded to ensure security of voters in today's presidential polls. Though Taliban blasted sound bombs in several dustbins, there is no reason for anxiety. One Talib kamikaze blasted himself in Zabul province, no injuries," Press-secretary of the Afghan Defense Ministry, General Zahir Azimi told Trend over the telephone from Kabul. The security was guaranteed in high level in the country, Azimi added.

The police killed two Talibs intending to commit a blast in the Pektiya province. At present, the situation in the country is normal and the people participate actively in the elections, Azimi added. 

Presidential elections started in Afghanistan at 07:00 on Aug.20. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and his main rivals appealed the voters to take an active part in today's presidential polls.
