Five U.S. soldiers were killed in three separate incidents on Thursday in riot southern Afghanistan, said a statement of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force issued on Friday.

"Two ISAF service members were killed and three more died of wounds in three separate events in southern Afghanistan on Sept. 24," the statement said, Xinhua reported.

It said that two soldiers were killed and one died from wounds as a result of an improvised explosive device detonation while one service member died of gunshot wounds from an insurgent attack, and one service member died of wounds sustained in an insurgent attack while on patrol.

Meantime, Capt. Regina Gillis, a U.S. spokesperson, confirmed that all of the deceased service members are from the United States.

Conflicts and violence have left 365 foreign troopers, including 213 U.S. soldiers, dead so far this year in war-torn Afghanistan.
