The European Union welcomes the signature by Armenia and Turkey, in Zürich on 10 October, of the two protocols relating to the establishment of diplomatic relations and the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, including the opening of the common border, says the statement of Swedish Presidency of the European Union, placed on its official website.

The European Union encourages Armenia and Turkey to remain committed to the process of normalisation and calls for the ratification and implementation of the protocols as soon as possible.

The European Union believes that the full normalisation of bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey would be an important contribution to security, stability and cooperation throughout this crucial region and will continue to offer its political and technical support to this process.
