President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas will pay an official visit to Brazil on Nov. 20, Brazilian Minister of External Relations Celso Amorim confirmed Wednesday after meeting Israeli President Shimon Peres, Xinhua reported.
Amorim said that in the upcoming meeting with Abbas the Brazilian government will try to persuade him to run for reelection in the elections of January 2010.
The Brazilian position coincides with the statement of Shimon Peres, who also urged Abbas to try to stay in power.
The Palestinian National Authority president has already said he would not try a new term because of difficulties in peace negotiations, particularly around the issue of Jewish settlements.

Abbas' visit will occur 10 days after the arrival of the Israeli president in Brazil, and three days before Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit.
The South American country has offered to be a mediator in peace negotiations, which was welcomed by President Peres.
According to Brazilian Minister of External Relations, the issue of settlements in Palestinian territories was discussed in his meeting with Peres, although in a "more philosophical" approach.
