A suspected insurgent attack has killed one of its soldiers in eastern Afghanistan, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said Monday, DPA reported.
The soldier died "following an insurgent attack on Sunday," the ISAF said in a statement without revealing the deceased's nationality or providing further details.
Nearly 600 coalition soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year, according to iCasualities.org, an independent website that tracks military fatalities in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The figure marks the bloodiest year for international troops since their deployment to the war-torn country with the ouster of the Taliban regime in late 2001.
