The U.S. State Department has once again confirmed that it opposes a possible resolution of the House of Representatives about what the Armenians call "Armenian genocide", U.S. State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said at the daily briefing on Monday, Anatolia news agency reported.
"We clearly stated that they opposed such a resolution. Our position has not been changed," Crowley said, adding that the state department works closely with the House of Representatives on the resolution.
The resolution on the "Armenian genocide" was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 4, with 23 congressmen voting for the resolution and 22 against it. The vote made it possible for the measure to be considered by the full House.
Armenia claims that in 1915, the Turkish Ottoman Empire committed "genocide" against the Armenians living in Anatolia.
