A shell fired from a NATO helicopter on Tuesday injured two Pakistani soldiers along the border with Afghanistan, intelligence officials said, DPA reported.
The shell hit the Adam Kot border control post in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, one of Pakistan's seven tribal districts where the Taliban and al-Qaeda are believed to have bases, said an intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"NATO helicopter remained inside Pakistan for around 20 minutes and flew back when Pakistani gunship helicopter reached in the area," said the official.
Pakistani army officials were not immediately available for confirmation.
The incident came two weeks after US special forces killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan's north-western town of Abbottabad.
The action has strained relations between two key allies in the fight against terrorism. Pakistan says the unilateral operation was a violation of its sovereignty.
US Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman John Kerry discussed ways to repair the relations with Pakistani civilian leaders in Islamabad on Monday.
Hours later, a US unmanned drone aircraft fired two missiles each into a vehicle and compound, killing 12 people in North Waziristan. The identity of those killed was not known yet.
