Ten dead in Indonesian helicopter crash
Ten people were killed when a helicopter carrying mining workers crashed in Indonesia, a official said Thursday, dpa reported.
Rescuers found the wreckage of the helicopter in a mountainous area of Bitung district, North Sulawesi hours after it lost contact Wednesday, Transport Ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan said.
"Early reports said one survived but later died in hospital," Ervan said.
The victims were two Australians, two South Africans and six Indonesians, local media reported. Ervan could not confirm the nationalities of the victims.
The helicopter was chartered by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, a joint venture between Australia's Newcrest Mining Ltd and PT Aneka Tambang.
