A soldier with the NATO-led coalition and a foreign civilian contractor were killed in eastern Afghanistan in an attack believed to involve an Afghan soldier, the alliance said Sunday.

The coalition also said there were Afghan army casualties in the incident Saturday, but did not provide details, dpa reported.

More than 51 foreign soldiers have been killed this year by Afghan forces turning their weapons on the foreign allies.

Taliban spokesmen have claimed responsibility for most attacks but military officials say insurgent infiltration accounts for only a small percentage.

The coalition has cut down exposure and operations, and increased security for their troops. Afghanistan has started revetting some security personnel and initiated a campaign for soldiers on cultural understanding of the foreign troops.
