Republican challenger Mitt Romney was projected the winner of the presidential election in Indiana Tuesday, handing US President Barack Obama a loss in the traditionally Republican state he had won in 2008, DPA reported.
Broadcaster CNN projected Romney would carry the state based on a combination of exit polls and early results.
Obama had been the first Democrat to carry the state since 1964 when he made history there in 2008, but had not been expected to do so again.
