At least three people were killed in twin bombings near the office of a secular political party in southern Pakistan, police said, dpa reported.

Police told dpa that three people were killed and 27 injured in the bombings near the Azizabad office of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the port of Karachi.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks, with one of its spokesmen, Ehsanullah Ehsan, saying secular parties would continue to be targeted.

The MQM is reportedly on a Taliban hitlist ahead of the May 11 elections.

The party's leader Haider Abbas Rizvi told Dawn News TV it would participate in the elections despite repeated attacks.

"We will not run away or bow before terrorists. May 11 will be the day of victory of MQM against the militants," Rizvi said.

Violence has increased in Pakistan in the run-up to the elections. A candidate of Awami National Party was gunned down along with his son on Friday by militants in Karachi.
