At least 11 people were killed in the collapse of a 24-storey luxury building in Medellin, where construction workers had been trying to fix a crack in a load-bearing structure, dpa reported.

Tower 6 of the complex, where the cracks were seen, had been evacuated on Friday before the construction team entered the building. Among those still missing were ten construction workers, a guard and a resident who had run back into the building at the last minute to retrieve an object, radio RCN reported.

Two people were injured and rescued alive after the collapse, which happened Saturday.

Tower 5 of the complex is also showing cracks, Medellin mayor Claudia Restrepo told RCN.
