(RIA Novosti) - Russia's foreign minister said Wednesday that a regional drugs information center set up in the former capital of Kazakhstan would be a powerful tool in the fight against drug trafficking.

"The formation of the center will be a powerful component for intercepting drugs," Sergei Lavrov said at the international conference on the fight against the drugs threat from Afghanistan, reports Trend.

The Central Asian regional information and coordination center, formed under the Paris Pact on the fight against drugs, will open by year end in Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan and the country's commercial center.
