The European Commission (EC) is prepared to finance the joint project with Ukraine in the energy sector, Trend Special Correspondent in Ukraine reports citing a Memorandum signed in Brussels on 14 September by the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy, Sergey Titienko, and the EC Commissar on Foreign Relationships and European Neighborhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Valdner.
The memorandum noted the significance of the cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in the sphere of energy, particularly, with respect to increase the security of deliveries of energy resources to Europe, as well as assistance in integration of the Ukrainian energy sector in to re energy market of the EU.
The two sides acknowledge the importance of investing in infrastructure projects in the gas and oil spheres. The EC stated it readiness to approve funds for support to the application of a memorandum, including the financing by the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction, as well as the development of project under general priorities of assistance to Ukraine.
In turn, Ferrero-Valdner noted that it is a very concrete step to increase transparency, reliability and security in the energy supply and its transit to the EU.
