Belarus sends note to Nigeria Foreign Ministry demanding urgent measures to free Belarus citizen

( BelTA ) - The Foreign Ministry of Belarus has sent a note to the Foreign Ministry of Nigeria in connection with the kidnapping of a citizen of Belarus. Belarus demands Nigeria take urgent measures to secure her unconditional and immediate release, Maria Vanshina, the deputy chief of the information - chief of the press service department of the foreign ministry.

'As there is no diplomatic mission of Belarus in Nigeria, the Belarusian foreign political department has addressed the Foreign Ministry of Russia with a request to transfer the authority to the embassy of Russia in Nigeria in providing assistance in the search for the Belarusian citizen', Maria Vanshina said.

According to her, on May 5 Irina Ekpo-Umo, a citizen of Belarus living in Nigeria, was kidnapped in Port-Harcourt in Nigeria.

'On the way back home from work her car was stopped by armed people. Her whereabouts are unknown. Irina Ekpo-Ump works for the translational oil corporation Whassan Eurest Nigeria Limited', Maria Vanshina said.
