BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 6. Russia has done a tremendous job for the green transition, aide to the President of Russia Ruslan Edelgeriyev, special representative of the head of state on climate issues said, Trend reports.

He made the remark during panel discussions on the topic “Habitat: each one has his own, all have a common habitat” within the framework of the tenth session of the XXI Annual Meeting of the Valdai Club in Sochi.

“There is a very active discourse in society about the so-called triple crisis. This includes climate change, loss of biodiversity, and environmental pollution. As far as climate issues are concerned, the platforms where we have climate discussions are currently far removed from both the climate and environmental domains. This is all about transformation, the green transition, decarbonization, and the economy and technology in general. Regarding the Russian Federation, we have done a tremendous amount of work in recent years; we have prepared a large regulatory framework for transformation,” he said.

Edelgeriyev mentioned that, in the grand scheme of things, the work has been a tough nut to crack, but the job isn't finished yet.

“Although we have adopted both adaptation plans and strategies, there is no plan to implement this strategy. As for the transformation mechanisms and changes, I believe that now the carbon intensity of products will be actively calculated, and here we should take into account trends and not just criticize the “green” transition. The Russian Federation will not benefit from this, only suffer, because we are an export-oriented country, and if we want the result of the trade balance to be positive, we still need to take into account that the carbon content of products will be calculated. If we do not work on it, we will just pay tariffs to foreign jurisdictions and economically suffer from it,” he added.

To note, the XXI Annual Meeting of the Valdai Club opened in Sochi on November 4. The theme of the meeting was “A lasting peace - on what basis? Universal security and equal opportunities for development in the XXI century”.
