Turkey's disaster management authority said that search & rescue as well as health personnel were deployed by 30 planes to the eastern province of Van following a 5.6 magnitude earthquake - the second massive earthquake which hit the city after the first 7.2 magnitude quake in October, Anadolu Agency reported.
Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) said on Thursday that 22 military and eight Turkish Airlines (THY) planes carried 792 search and rescue personnel, 14 search and rescue dogs, 62 heavy equipment, 5,440 tents, 43,760 blankets and 600 beds to the city, while 22 ambulances were sent to the region.
25 buildings have been damaged according to the preliminary reports, added AFAD.
12 people including one Japanese citizen were killed in the quake, while 28 citizens were pulled out of the debris alive, it noted.
The quake occurred at 9.23 p.m. on Wednesday.
On October 23, Van had been hit by an earthquake measuring 7.2 on Richter scale. 601 people were killed and 4,152 others were wounded in the quake. 188 people were pulled alive out of the debris.
