Turkey discloses number of passengers served at new Istanbul Airport in 2019

The new Istanbul airport served over 52 million passengers in 2019, Trend reports referring to Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

Over 12 million passengers were served at the domestic flights, while over 39 million passengers - at the international flights.

During the reporting period, 329,799 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul airport, 82,325 of which were domestic, while 247,474 were international.

The volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 852,943 tons in 2019, of which 102,971 tons were domestic and 749,972 tons were international.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.

The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
