By Anvar Mammadov - Trend:

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia for the first time exceeded $4 billion in 2014, Russia's trade representative in Azerbaijan Eldar Tlyabichev told Trend April 6.

"As of 2014, the trade turnover between the two countries slightly exceeded $4 billion, by showing good dynamics," he said. "In 2013 the turnover amounted to $3.5 billion."

"There is no definite level of increasing the trade turnover for 2015, but there is a purpose of its further growth and developing the new areas of cooperation," he said.

"In general, 2014 was a year of active development of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia," he said. "The numerous visits of senior officials and delegations of the regions, as well as an increase in trade turnover testify to this."

"All this testifies to the positive dynamics of development of our relations," he said. "I am sure that all this is the beginning of a new stage of our relations. We will expand cooperation in the traditional areas, as well as develop new areas of cooperation. Today, we see a number of promising areas for cooperation and intend to actively develop them."

He said that a number of joint activities at the official high level and in the format of joint business activities are planned to be held.

The 15th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on trade-economic meeting will be held in Russia in the first half of 2015.

"This is a key event, covering all areas of cooperation," he said. "The promising areas of development are being formed as part of the intergovernmental commission. The problematic issues are discussed and resolved."

A business mission of Russian manufacturers of agricultural machinery and equipment will be held in Baku in May as part of the agro-industrial exhibition with the support of Ministry of Economic Development and the Agency for Export Credit and Investment Insurance of Russia.

He said that the Stavropol region will be represented by a separate stand at the exhibition.

"Besides these activities, the visits of the heads of some business missions are being coordinated," he said. "We also expect a big delegation of Azerbaijan to visit the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2015."
