By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

While Iran and Greece are seeking to rebuild economic ties, three Iranian banks have plans to open branches in the EU member country.

By doing so, Iran intends to improve its trade turnover with Greece to $3 billion per year, Fars news agency reported August 21.

The number used to be $1.86 billion before sanctions on Iran reduced it to $24 million.

Also, Iran is slated to send its biggest trade delegation ever to Greece in less than one month.

The delegation will get to know recent technological developments and two drug-making factories in particular.

The delegation will also get to know the most recent EU regulations in the GDP and GSP areas, Secretary General of the Joint Iran-Greece Chamber of Trade Majid Movafeq Qadiri said.

Iran used to export mainly oil, dry goods, handicraft, carpet, and minerals to Greece, while on the other hand importing olive, nickel, zinc, and alumina powder.

Qadiri went on to point out that a direct flight between the capitals of Tehran and Athens has been launched, which will fly three times a week, reducing time and cost of travel considerably.
