By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

Rosatom Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation can participate in strengthening the human resources and a technical base of the Azerbaijani Nuclear Research Center CJSC, Adil Garibov, the chairman of the company, told Trend Nov. 11.

He said that the world's first nuclear power plant was built in Russia in 1954 and this country has powerful nuclear reactors in the world.

"Therefore, we do not exclude that the Russian side will be able to participate in the projects being implemented in Azerbaijan in the future," he said. "But their choice will be determined according to the generally accepted international standards."

At present, the company receives the offers for nuclear technology cooperation from different countries. The negotiations are generally held with all these countries. The memorandums of intent are signed.

"Our main program is well known," he said. "This is the construction of a research reactor, strengthening of human resources and so on. We are negotiating with France, Argentina, Russia and Pakistan on these issues. As for the specific areas of cooperation, their choice will be determined by tender."

"The nuclear technology is quite specific," he said. "The entire work in this area is carried out directly with the participation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as there are certain norms, standards and requirements."

"After all requirements are fulfilled, the companies to be involved in the projects being implemented in the country in this sphere, will be chosen," he said.

The IAEA previously approved two projects of the company. The projects submitted for the IAEA consideration cover 2015-2018 and 2016-2018. Each project is estimated at 400,000-500,000 euros. They are mainly aimed at training the specialized personnel.

The decree on the establishment of the National Nuclear Research Center under the Azerbaijani ministry of communications and high technologies was signed by the president May 8, 2014 to use the nuclear technology in peaceful purposes.
