Some 2,500 tankers carrying oil delivered via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline have been shipped from Turkish marine terminal in Ceyhan, according to a message from BP, which operates the BTC.

Since June 2, 2006 the BTC has transported over 1.9 billion barrels of oil (256 million tons), BP's message read.

BTC's total length is 1,768 kilometres including a 443 kilometre long section running through Azerbaijan, a 249 kilometre long section in Georgia and a 1,076 kilometre long section in Turkey. The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.

BTC Co. was established on August 1, 2002 for realizing the BTC oil pipeline construction project.

BTC Co. shareholders include BP (30.1 percent), AzBTC (25 percent), Chevron (8.9 percent), Statoil (8.71 percent), TPAO (6.53 percent), Eni (five percent), Total (five percent), Itochu (3.40 percent), Inpex (2.5 percent), ConocoPhilips (2.50 percent) and ONGC (2.36 percent).

BTC pipeline's capacity stands at 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
