Turkmenistan is preparing for accelerated harnessing of its own national space communications system, and the launch of the first satellite is planned before the end of the year, states the report of the Government of Turkmenistan Aug. 29.

This project is carried out by the French-Italian Thales Alenia Space and Space Systems International-Monaco SAM

"Using of our own multipurpose spacecraft scheduled for launch in the second half of 2014, will not only establish qualitative and reliable communications and increase the number of channels, but it is also a cost-effective step," the statement said.

The information says that now the installation of necessary equipment and facilities is completed and testing of satellite modules is being carried out.

The geographical position of Turkmenistan will allow it to act as a transit country in the broadcasting of channels of Europe and Asia in the presence of the satellite covering large areas.

"Creating the perfect telecommunications systems that meets the highest level of international standards and ensuring the quality of information communication strengthens the image of our country in the international community and determines the vector of further development of Turkmenistan not only as a key link in the Central Asian region, but also the most important information and communication bridge between East and West," the Turkmen
Dovlet Khabarlary (TDH) state news service reported.

Launch of its own satellite also provides space-related research and will accelerate the development of communication systems and the Internet, television and other industries.
