The Toshshahartranshizmat (Tashgortrans) Association announced a 14.3 per cent increase in public transport prices.

According to a report posted on Tuesday on the website of the association, fares for city route buses, trams and subways, as well as suburban route buses in the city is now 800 UZS per trip against the previous 700 UZS outside of the city according to the tariff.

The price increase is related to increased expenses on fuel, spares and materials, the report said.

The minimum price of monthly travel cards for pensioners and disabled people supported by a pension certificate, college and university students in the presence of a student card and pupils of secondary schools in the presence of a certificate will be 40,000 soms from the previous 35,000 soms. The maximum monthly fare for buses and trams will be 80,000 soms from 70, 000 soms.

The last time public transportation prices in Tashkent increased was in April 2012, growing by 16.7 per cent, from 600 to 700 UZS per trip.

Currently, the minimum wage in Uzbekistan is 79,590 soms per month, the minimum retirement pension and allowances for childhood disability is 155,670 soms, benefits for the elderly and disabled citizens who do not have the required work record is 95.520 soms a month.

As previously reported, in Uzbekistan on April 1 the price of natural gas sold to consumers increased by 14 per cent, prices for central heating, hot and cold water supply by 13.5 per cent, for electricity by 7.4 per cent and for domestic waste disposal by 53.3 per cent.

The official exchange rate on April 1 was 2044.27 UZS/ $ 1.
