By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has refined over 103.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas and injected to the national gas network in first 8 months of current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-Nov. 22).

The figure rose by 11 billion cubic meters compared to the same period in the past year, Iran's Shana news agency reported on Dec. 6.

NIGC Deputy Director Abdolhossein Samari, said over 16.7 billion cubic meters of gas condensates was produced in the 8-month period, compared to 15.573 billion cubic meters last year.

Moreover, 639,000 metric tons of sulfur and 1.18 billion metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were produced in the 8-month period, he added.

The Islamic Republic faced severe gas shortages last winter. In addition to cutting the gas supply to power plants, which led to burning $30 billion of liquid fuels, the Iranian government had to decrease gas delivery to petrochemical plants from 1,236 million to 530 million cubic feet which caused a drop in the petrochemical production by 7.5 million metric tons during the last fiscal year (ended on March 21).

Iranian officials have earlier emphasized that the country's gas output would increase by 100 million cubic meters after the four phases of South Pars gas field come on stream before winter.
