Iran and Japan share various common interests regarding the diplomatic and economic cooperation, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, Zarif called for drawing up a roadmap for expanding cooperation between the two countries, IRNA news agency reported.

He added that the two countries attach importance to establishing peace and security in their regions.

In turn, Fumio Kishida touched upon Iran’s nuclear deal reached with the world powers last year, saying that Tokyo gives support for the the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and urges all involved parties to honor their commitments concerning the deal.

The Japanese official announced his country’s decision to help Iran with the nuclear security issues through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) indicating Tokyo’s support to the nuclear deal.

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Japan earlier in the day at the head of a high-ranking business delegation at the final leg of his regional tour to Asia. Zarif earlier visited India and China.
