Azerbaijan plans to increase fines for violations of legislation on freedom of religion: for individuals - six times, for officials - up to 16 times, Ali Huseynov, the chairman of the parliamentary committee on legal policy and state-building, said at the meeting of the parliamentary committees on human rights and on legal policy and state-building on Wednesday.

Azerbaijan plans to increase fines for violations of legislation on freedom of religion: for individuals - six times, for officials - up to 16 times, Ali Huseynov, the chairman of the parliamentary committee on legal policy and state-building, said at the meeting of the parliamentary committees on human rights and on legal policy and state-building on Wednesday. 

Huseynov provided information about the bill on amendments to the Administrative Violations Code of the Azerbaijan Republic. According to him, it was also proposed to increase the penalty for violating the rules of creation and activity of religious organizations.

Currently the penalties envisaged by the Administrative Violations Code are: for individuals - 100-300 manat, for officials - 200-500 manat. The new bill will increase these penalties for individuals - up to 1500-2000 manat, for officials - up to 7000-8000 manat.

After discussions, the bill was proposed for consideration at the plenary session of the Parliament.

The meeting also discussed a bill to transfer the authority Information Commissioner to the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman).
The bill on amendments and additions to the Constitutional Law on the Commissioner for Human Rights of Azerbaijan Republic was recommended for consideration at the meeting of the Parliament.
