The Georgian parliament postponed adopting a statement on Russia's actions in the territories of the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia due to the upcoming Abkhazian presidential elections Dec.12.

No election can take place in a territory where ethnic cleansing was carried out, and which is now occupied, Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze said at today's extraordinary session. According to the official, the international community shares the same position.

Bakradze said the issue will be included in a statement adopted by parliament.

"The Georgian parliament will call on the international community not to recognize the so-called presidential elections in Abkhazia," he said.
