Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Tuesday called for activation of Iran-India ties to develop economic cooperation, IRNA reported.

In a meeting with India's National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon, he referred to the cultural and historic commonalities between the two countries and said that Iran possessing huge resources of energy can have excellent cooperation with India, which owns advanced technology.

Salehi said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is willing to cooperate with India in all fields.

He described India as a large country with a special status in the region and the entire world.

Menon, for his part, said that bilateral ties are disproportionate to the two countries' capacities, a reference to low economic cooperation.

"We have numerous common interests and we would enhance the level of cooperation with Iran," he said.
