Turkish Ambassador in Tokyo advised Turkish citizens to leave Japan unless they really need to stay amid growing alarms over nuclear fear after a devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the country, Anadolu News Agency reported.

Ambassador Sermet Atacanli told the AA in a phone interview that the embassy repeated a warning for Turkish nationals and families of the embassy staff due to fears of aftershocks and nuclear contamination from damaged Fukushima nuclear reactors.

Families of many Turkish people living in Japan have already left the country over the past few days, Atacanli said.

He said there was no decision to evacuate all Turkish citizens from Japan, however, he said Turkey could change its decision in case of an emergency.

Atacanli also recommended Turkish people in Japan to watch for announcements from Turkish Embassy and Japanese authorities who earlier declared a no-fly zone 30 km around Fukushima nuclear power plant.
