Avtandil Beridze was elected Chairman of the Supreme Council of Adjara. Some 13 deputies of the Supreme Council voted for him during the first session of the Council at resort town of Chakvi.
Some 8 deputies did not vote. They are all representatives of the United National Movement.
Beradze is a former deputy of Khelvachauri local government - Sakrebulo. He is a member of the Republican Party, which is a part of Georgian Dream coalition.
There are 13 deputies from the coalition and 8 from the UND in the Supreme Council of Ajara.
Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili attended the session of the Council.
