Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia detained two Orthodox clerics in connection with the violence against supporters and defenders of the LGBT community in Tbilisi on May 17.

As the Ministry reported on Thursday, the accusation of organizing the contraction and dispersal of LGBT advocates was brought against the Archimandrite of Trinity Cathedral Antimoz Bichanashvili and the hegumene of Ioane Tornike Eristavi convent.

The investigation is being conducted under the first part of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which includes responsibility for obstructing the right of assembly and demonstration.
