Georgian former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili's Georgian citizenship was restored by the Supreme Court on Dec.26, 2013, Georgian TV3 TV company reported.
Bidzina Ivanishvili was stripped of Georgian citizenship by former authorities when it became known that after receiving Georgian citizenship, the businessman got also the French citizenship. In accordance to the country's legislation, upon the receipt of another citizenship, a citizen is deprived of Georgian citizenship. Now Ivanishvili has dual citizenship under the law.
Meanwhile, the decision was rated as political one, as it was adopted after billionaire Ivanishvili decided to go into politics and to become a member of the opposition to ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.
