Georgian president meets new EU ambassador

New EU Ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman handed over credentials to Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili.

The president said that the EU is an important partner for Georgia, and cooperation becomes even more important after the signing of the association agreement.

Ways of implementation of the association agreement, issues of intensification of the relations between Georgia and the EU and the ongoing processes in the region were discussed at the meeting, the presidential administration told Trend Oct.17.

The conversation touched a draft agreement on the integration between Russia and Abkhazia. The president stressed the importance of participation of the EU in this issue, including the monitoring mission in order to ensure the safety and de-escalate the situation in the region.

Janos Herman began working in the ministry of foreign affairs of Hungary almost 40 years ago and held senior positions there, including the secretary of state and was the permanent representative to NATO till 2005, until he joined the EU. He also served as head of the EU delegation in Norway. He is the special representative of the EU in Central Asia.
