Fatah official praises Britain’s stance concerning settlements

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 14 /Trend/

Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party Monday praised the position of Britain concerning settlements, WAFA reported.

Nabil Shaath, who chairs Fatah's foreign relation committee, handed a thank you letter to British Consul Vincent Fen and called on Britain to further support the Palestinian people.

He said the Palestinians are committed to return to negotiations in order to regain Palestinian national rights.

Shaath said that in order to return to negotiations Israel must comply with the negotiations' terms of reference and must agree on establishing a Palestinian state within 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

However, he questioned the utility of negotiations saying, "What's the point of negotiating if the second party, Israel, doesn't comply with the conditions of negotiations?"

He added that Israel is determined to implement its settlements plan on Palestinian territories and he called on Britain to force Israel to abide by the international law and stop settlement activities.

Fen said that Palestinians should make use of the international support through showing their intent to return back to negotiations, the only road to peace.
