NATO: Azerbaijan can make significant contribution to ensuring peace and stability

Azerbaijan as a country - partner of NATO, can play a more important role in ensuring peace and stability in the world and in fulfilling tasks that the next NATO summit in Chicago will define, Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, coordinating cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO, Daniel Christian Ciobanu believes.
As Christian Ciobanu said at a conference dedicated to the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago, so far Azerbaijan has been actively involved in restoring peace and stability in Asia, particularly in Afghanistan. He expressed confidence that this cooperation will further continue.
The Conference: "Chicago Summit - new opportunities for Euro-Atlantic Partnership" is underway in Baku on Friday with the participation of representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the Azerbaijani parliament and foreign countries' ambassadors.
NATO and Azerbaijan are actively cooperating in the field of democratic, institutional and military reform, as well as conduct practical cooperation in many areas. The programme of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO is set out in the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan seeks to achieve the Euro-Atlantic norms and standards and come closer to Euro-Atlantic institutions. In this regard, support for security sector reform and creation of the institution of democracy are the key elements of cooperation between NATO and Azerbaijan.
In addition to reforms, another important area of cooperation is support to Azerbaijan in the conduct of NATO-led operations. Currently, Azerbaijan sent peacekeepers to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. In the past, the country has also actively supported operations in Kosovo.
