Ukraine looks to participate in future satellite projects in Azerbaijan

Ukraine has proposed to participate in future satellite projects in Azerbaijan told, Azercosmos told Trend on Friday.

"Azerbaijan hopes for bilateral cooperation with Ukraine in the aerospace sector. Negotiations and discussions continue in this area," the company said.

The proposals of the Ukrainian side include sharing of experiences and organization of broad opportunities for Azerbaijan in the training of specialized personnel in the aerospace field.

"In connection with the beginning of the formation of Azerbaijan of technological industries, and development by Azercosmos of human resources, we intend to use the experience of Ukraine in this direction. Therefore, cooperation with the National Space Agency of Ukraine is in the long-term plans, and in this direction we will hold talks with the relevant structures," the company said.

As Trend reported previously, a source close to the project, National Space Agency of Ukraine is interested in creating a second satellite for Azerbaijan.

This issue was discussed in the last year's visit to Ukraine of representatives of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan and Azercosmos.

The Ukrainian side has Sich-2 space system, which provides monitoring of emergency situations, plant and soil covers of the land, creation of digital terrain maps, land management, land use planning in urban and coastal areas.

Tender announced earlier by Azercosmos to build, launch low-orbit satellites and insurance services, is recognized as valid. The tender results will be announced shortly after the evaluation of proposals.

Launch of the LEO satellite is scheduled for 2013.

Work is currently underway on the launch of the first telecommunications satellite of Azerbaijan Azerspace. It will be launched in late 2012. Cost of the first satellite program in Azerbaijan is estimated at $250 million.
