Number of phishing attacks reduces significantly on Azerbaijani Internet

The actual number of phishing incidents in AzNET's segment dropped by 35.3 per cent last month, a report by the Netcraft research firm published on its website on Friday said.

According to the report, one phishing attack productive for scammers which is done for money or personal information accounts for 1543 sites in the .az domain in Azerbaijan.

The analysis is based on the Netcraft Toolbar programme, which is a plug-in for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. The programme notifies users of a potentially dangerous Internet resources and prevention of a phishing attack.

Netcraft Toolbar is currently installed on 4629 personal computers in Azerbaijan, which is nearly three per cent less than in December 2012.

Phishing attacks are carried out through mass e-mails under the names of popular brands. Most people do not know that services such as banks never send letters requesting the recipient to communicate credentials which brings success to phishing attacks.

The letter often contains a direct link to the brand's false website, visually not different from the original one. Once on that site, a user can report valuable information to scammers creating access to his accounts and bank accounts.
